MESSAGE FROM MBAM PRESIDENT, MR MATTHEW TEE
COURTESY VISIT BY THE HIGH COMMISSIONER FOR THE ISLAMIC REPUBLIC OF PAKISTAN KUALA LUMPUR -H.E. MR SHAHID M.G. KIANIA
H.E. Mr Shahid M G Kiani who has recently taken over as the High Commissioner of Pakistan Malaysia paid a courtesy visit to MBAM on 9th May 2013.
MBAM Deputy President, Mr Aziz Bahaman, MBAM Vice President, Dato’ Ir. Tan Gim Foo and MBAM Council Members Mr Kenneth Liew and Ir. Ong Ching Loon were present at the meeting.
Issues discussed include:
- Urging the need from Pakistan to form an association (similar with MBAM) to safeguard interests of its builders. MBAM offer its services in this regard.
- Requesting MBAM members to consider sourcing building materials (marble, granite, onyx, cement, sanitary ware) from Pakistan.
- Invitation to Malaysian construction companies to invest in the infrastructure and housing projects in Pakistan.
- To hold special meeting with members companies who have issues in Pakistan.
- Invitation to MBAM to join various functions organized by the business members and government of Pakistan and
- Invitation to MBAM to become a member of Malaysia-Pakistan Business Council.
COURTESY VISIT OF TURKEY EMBASSY COMMERCIAL OFFICE THAT A TURKISH COMPANY
Mr. Esat Durak the Turkish Embassy Commercial Officer and Mr. Mehmet Selamat, Director of the Dizayan Group of Companies paid a courtesy visit to MBAM on 9th May 2013. MBAM Executive Director, Ms Loh Mei Ling, Technical Director, Mr Koh Chan Wah and Managers, Mr. Michael Thong and Ms. Lee Siew Mei welcomed the representatives and thank them for the opportunity to get to know the visitors.
Mr. Mehemet Selama presented the corporate video of the Dizayan Group of Companies and the core business of their group which consist of building, agricultural, medical products and water technology and was followed by a lively discussion on the market entry procedure and potential market for their products in Malaysia. Next the MBAM Corporate was presented to give the visitors a better understanding of MBAM. BUSINESS MISSION TO JAKARTA, INDONESIA
Business Mission to Jakarta, Indonesia was led by MBAM President, Mr Matthew Tee Kai Woon, MBAM Deputy President, Mr Aziz Tan Sri Bahaman, MBAM Vice Presidents, Dato’ Sri Sufri Bin Haji Mohd Zin, MBAM Deputy Secretary-General 1, Mr Dennis Tan, MBAM Council Member, Mr Ong Ka Thiam, MBAM Executive Director, Ms Loh Mei Ling, MBAM PR Manager, Mr Lenny Lim and MBAM Manager, Ms Lee Siew Mei in Jakarta, Indonesia. Overall a total of 40-delegation participated in the successful mission. Meanwhile there were approximately 60 participants who attended the seminars mentioned below.
Highlights of the programme were:
- Networking Golf Session with the Ministry of Public Works, Indonesia
- Seminar on Sharing of Experiences with Malaysian Contractors in Indonesia
- Seminar on Update & Projects Opportunities in Indonesia
- Site Visit to Verde High End Condominium
- Courtesy Visit to Indonesia Contractors Association (ICA)
Overall, participants were satisfied with the mission programme. The Secretariat is currently compiling participants’ feedback and finalizing the account.
JOB TECHNICAL TRAINING CUM STUDY VISIT TO MANJUNG COAL-FIRED POWER PLANT @ SERI MANJUNG, PERAK
On 23rd May 2013, Mr. Ong Ka Thiam, MBAM Chairman Technical Committee jointly with the Mechanical and Electrical Committee, lead a successful delegation of 31 members to a job technical training cum study visit to the Manjung 4 Power Station. Welcoming the delegation were Ir. Chandra, Mr. Jegathesan from Eversendai and Mr. Selvam from Alstom. The delegation was given a briefing, a power point presentation and a walk about at the site by Ir. Chandrasegaran, Mr. Jegathesan and Mr. Selvam. Participants also got to ask questions about the well-known coal-fired plant. The 1000MW Coal Fired Manjung 4 Power Station which is scheduled to be completed in 2015 is expected to be the First Ultra Supercritical Power Plant in South East Asia.
COURTESY VISIT TO SEE THE CHIEF SECRETARY TO THE GOVERNMENT OF MALAYSIA DATO’ SRI DR ALI BIN HAMSA
MBAM organised a Courtesy Visit to See the Chief Secretary to the Government of Malaysia, Dato’ Sri Dr Ali Hamsa to discuss issues affecting MBAM Members on 29th May 2013. MBAM was represented by MBAM Immediate Past President, Mr Kwan Foh Kwai; MBAM Deputy President, Mr Aziz Tan Sri Bahaman; MBAM Vice President, Dato’ Sri Sufri Haji Mohd. Zin; MBAM Vice President, Mr Thomas Samuel; MBAM Secretary-General, Ir. Chuan Yeong Ming; MBAM Council Member, Mr Eric Yong; MBAM Executive Director, Ms Loh Mei Ling and myself. The following issues were discussed:-
- MBAM 59th Anniversary Dinner
- Central Labour Quarter for Foreign Workers and Training for Construction Personnel
- Cabinet Paper on Reduction of Duties for the Heavy Construction Machineries
- Representation in PEMANDU and PEMUDAH
- Construction Industry Payment and Adjudication Act (CIPAA)
- Issues Affecting Construction Activities in Kuala Lumpur
PREVIEW IPD-OUM ON MBAM TRAINING PROGRAMME
Recently, a Preview on the Institute of Professional Development-Open University Malaysia (IPD-OUM) and Master Builders Association Malaysia (MBAM) Training Programmes was held on 17th May 2013 at the MBAM Training Centre, Kuala Lumpur. It was attended by 20 persons comprising staff from MBAM member companies and the MBAM Secretariat.
The objective of the Preview is to promote the launching of modular study option for following quality construction industry-based training tailored to the industry’s needs:
(a) Industrial Executive Diploma in Construction Management (IEDCM)
(b) Industrial Executive Diploma in Construction Contract Administration (IEDCCA)
(c) Executive Bachelor in Construction Management (EBCM)
(d) Executive Bachelor in Construction Contract Administration (EBCCA)
Students may take up individual module separately and receive modular Certificate of Completion. Students will also have the option to accumulate the modular certificate to be awarded the Industrial Executive Diploma and Executive Bachelor upon compliance with the terms and conditions of the programmes. Participants of each module will be entitled to 20 CCD points from the Construction Industry Development Board, Malaysia (CIDB). I would like to strongly appeal to all members of MBAM and members of the construction industry to seriously consider participating in the above programme. This is a very important initiative that will seriously help in the up skilling of construction industry personnel and we do hope that we can have enough participants to commence the classes.
MBAM AFFILIATES DIALOGUE AND MBAM 59TH ANNIVERSARY DINNER 2013
MBAM Affiliates Dialogue 2013 and 59th Anniversary Dinner 2013 is scheduled to be held on Friday, 14th June 2013 at Sunway Hotel Resort and Spa and Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre respectively. We look forward to your participation by sending issues for MBAM Affiliates Dialogue 2013 and I look forward to your attendance at our 59th Anniversary Dinner 2013.
Once again, I would also like to remind MBAM members next year we will be celebrating our 60th Anniversary Dinner 2014. The Association is definitely looking into making the 60th Anniversary Dinner 2014 a memorable one and should you like to volunteer your expertise, time and energy into making the event a success please do not hesitate to contact MBAM Secretariat. Other key events to look out for in the first half of the year include: • MBAM Annual Safety Conference 2013 and Safety Awards – 26th-27th June 2013 in Sime Darby Convention Centre and • MBAM 59th Annual General Meeting – 29th June 2013 in Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club
