The theme of the 5th Malaysian Construction Summit 2013 was “Challenges Facing the Construction Industry: Are We Ready?”.

MBAM hopes that with all the papers presented as well as with the discussions gained from the panelist and attendees, the issues and challenges faced by the construction industry can be resolved for the continued benefit of the Malaysian Construction Industry. The event was endorsed by the Real Estate Housing Developers Association, Malaysia (REHDA), Pertubuhan Akitek Malaysia (PAM), The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM), Chartered Institute of Building, Malaysia (CIOB), Association of Consulting Engineers Malaysia (ACEM), Institution of Surveyors, Malaysia (ISM), Persatuan Kontraktor India Malaysia (PKIM), Persatuan Kontraktor-Kontraktor Melayu Malaysia (PKMM), The Electrical and Electronic Association of Malaysia (TEEAM) and Malaysian Institute of Planners (MIP).

The 5th MCS 2013 could not be made possible without sponsorship.  The following were the sponsors of  the 5th MCS 2013 and they should be rightfully acknowledged:

Platinum Sponsor

  • Bina Puri Holdings Berhad

Gold Sponsor

  • Sunway Construction Sdn. Bhd

Silver Sponsors

  • Brunsfield International Group
  • Hanson Building Materials Malaysia Sdn. Bhd.

The 5th MCS 2013 drew overwhelming support of more than 250 participants as it provided an interactive platform that enables key representatives from the Government, industry stakeholders, investors and regulators to constructively discuss and brainstorm issues to generate some practical solutions for current problems.  I would like to thank once again YBhg. Datuk Himmat Singh, Secretary-General, Ministry of Works, Malaysia who delivered  the Keynote Address and  launched the official opening of 5th Malaysian Construction Summit (MCS)  2013 despite his busy schedule. Through the Summit, MBAM hopes   the Government will review and scrutinize future policies and procedures to ensure that these procedures or policies will help promote the  sustainable growth of the Malaysian Construction industry.

During the 5th MCS 2013, the historical signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between MBAM and Construction Research Institute of Malaysia (CREAM) took place. The signing of  the MOU signified  the agreement of the two organisations, MBAM and CREAM to cooperate and to execute research works on the following topics such as Research on Recycle of Construction Waste; Research on depleting natural sand and supplementary study on manufactured sand; Research on durability of concrete; Research on rainwater harvesting; Research on Green Technology; Research on energy efficiency and Research on solar energy.  It is hoped that this cooperation would lead to commercialisation and adoption of new construction methods and products.

After a very successful 5th MCS 2013, MBAM held its MBAM Open 2013 which attracted more than 250 attendees. The event was very beneficial to members of the local and international construction fraternity because it enabled MBAM to be more relevant to its Members and the construction fraternity. Members who attended will testify that there was a sense of community, comradeship and was indicative of their commitment towards the betterment of the construction industry as a whole. Let me take the opportunity to thank all MBAM Council Members for their generous sponsorship contributions in making the MBAM Open 2013  a success.
