ADDITIONAL SPECIAL PUBLIC HOLIDAY (CUTI PERISTIWA) IN SELANGOR ON 01 SEPTEMBER 2026
We wish to inform members that the Selangor State Government has declared Tuesday, 1 September 2026 as a Special Public Holiday (Cuti Peristiwa) to celebrate Selangor’s contingent emerging as overall champions in the SUKMA XXII Games.
This holiday is declared under Section 9(1) of the Holidays Act 1951 [Act 369] and does not form part of the five (5) mandatory public holidays under Section 60D (1) of the Employment Act 1955.
Member companies in Selangor whose collective agreements or terms of employment provide for paid holidays on all gazetted Federal or State holidays are required to observe this holiday.
Employers who need to operate on 1 September 2026 may do so with employees’ agreement:
- Substitute the holiday with another paid holiday; or
- Pay employees working on that day the prescribed public holiday rate in accordance with Section 60D(3)(a) of the Employment Act 1955.
If 1 September 2026 falls on a rest day, employers recognizing the holiday shall grant a paid holiday on the next working day, pursuant to the proviso of Section 60D (1).
Companies whose agreements or terms of employment specify only a fixed number of public holidays are not legally obliged to observe this additional holiday.
Members are advised to administer entitlements in compliance with the Employment Act 1955.
