| MBAM SENT DELEGATES TO THE 39TH INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION OF ASIAN & WESTERN PACIFIC CONTRACTORS’ ASSOCIATION (IFAWPCA) CONVENTION HELD ON 15TH-18TH NOVEMBER 2011 IN HONG KONG
MBAM President Mr Kwan Foh Kwai led a delegation of 35 representatives to the 39th IFAWPCA Convention held in Hong Kong from 15th to 18th November 2011. During the convention, MBAM Deputy Secretary-General 1 and MBAM IFAWPCA Chief Delegate Ir. Chuan Yeong Ming delivered a speech on the theme of “Built on Collaboration and Fair Contract Terms”. In his speech, Ir. Chuan spoke on collaboration in the construction industry which will enable companies to augment their strength by providing better capacity and resources and skills to deliver projects in a timely manner while ensuring quality. With all construction contracts, it is important to ensure fair contract terms with clarity and equitable risk sharing where the interests of all parties to the contract are protected and the spirit of mutual trust and cooperation is embodied. This was an important visit for MBAM as the Association needs to enhance international cooperation with IFAWPCA members more proactively. To accomplish this, the delegation will continue to forge more interaction with IFAWPCA delegates after the conference with the objective to build sound platform for cooperation in the international construction arena as well as to encourage investments. Through the current 39th IFAWPCA Convention, MBAM hopes it can serve as an important platform for the exchange of ideas and forging bonds for the development of a clear path towards productive collaborations and fair contract terms initiatives. The process of Legalisation(Pemutihan) has started and it will end on 15th December 2011. All members are urged to legalise their workers who have registered with ‘SLIP PENDAFTARAN PATI’ under the 6P Programme from now onwards to avoid last minute crowd. Pemutihan can be processed at the Dewan Serbaguna KPPK, Aras G, Blok 2G4, Presint 2, Putrajaya from 8.00am to 5.00pm (Mon-Fri). SITE SAFETY AND HEALTH SUPERVISOR COURSE (SSS) COURSE Under the Occupational Safety & Health (Safety & Health Officer) Regulations 1997 and Factories & Machinery (Building Operations and Works of Engineering Construction-Safety) Regulations 1986; for any building operation and works of engineering construction projects with contract sum less than RM20 million: Main Contractors are required to employ competent SSS for safety supervision within the work site Sub-contractors with 20 or more workers must employ competent Contractor’s Safety and Health Supervisor at the place of work to keep each project safe, yet be cost effective and efficient. The Department of Safety & Health (DOSH) will be enforcing the above-mentioned regulations in 2012.
