MIGRANT REPATRIATION PROGRAMME
With reference to the Press Release (dated 28 February 2024) from various media outlets, the Migrant Repatriation Programme will be starting from 1 March 2024 till 31 December 2024. It is advised that migrants should use this opportunity to return home.
Migrants who are eligible to apply for this programme include those without valid travel passes, those who had overstayed and those who violated their travel passes or permits.
It was mentioned that while no court action would be taken to those applying for the repatriation programme, migrants would have to pay a fine to exit the country. For those without valid travel pass and overstayed, the fine imposed is RM500 only and for those who violated their travel passes or permits, a fine of RM300 will be imposed. Migrants must possess a passport or valid travel document and also a one-way ticket with a departure date within 14 days from their application for the programme.
The Immigration Department also stressed that they do not appoint any agents to manage the repatriation process. Therefore, those who wants to sign up for the programme should visit state immigration offices throughout peninsula and Labuan. However, it was stated that Sabah and Sarawak have yet to participate at this moment.
