It is my absolute pleasure to welcome you back to these pages as I begin my second term as your Editor-in-Chief for the 2026–2028 session. Serving the Master Builders Association Malaysia (MBAM) community in this capacity remains a profound honour, and I look forward to spending the next two years documenting our industry’s relentless drive towards progress, innovation and resilience. This issue marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for our Association. On 20 June 2026, we successfully held the 72 nd MBAM Annual General Meeting (AGM). I would like to extend my warmest congratulations to our newly elected President, Kenneth Liew Kiam Woon. A seasoned leader in mechanical and electrical engineering and a long-time champion of MBAM’s initiatives, Kenneth Liew brings a wealth of experience, strategic foresight and energy to the role. Our cover story, ‘Interview with MBAM’s New President, Kenneth Liew Kiam Woon’, details his bold vision for MBAM’s future, highlighting how he plans to navigate the evolving socio-economic landscape, advocate for fairer contracting terms and push for a more unified industry. In tandem, this issue proudly introduces the newly elected Council Members for the 2026–2028 term—a stellar line-up of dedicated professionals ready to steer our industry forward. We also pay tribute to the continuous leadership within our ranks. Our Immediate Past President, Oliver HC Wee, contributes a thought-provoking article titled ‘ICT – From Digitalisation to Intelligence: Transforming the Construction Industry’. He outlines how modern developers and builders must look beyond basic digitalisation and actively embrace intelligence—such as AI-driven workflows, smart modelling and automation—to remain competitive in an increasingly globalised marketplace. Turning to sustainability, our technical feature story, ‘Designing for Water Resilience in Malaysia’s Built Environment’, tackles a pressing ecological and urban planning challenge. With climate change fuelling unpredictable weather patterns, erratic monsoons and urban flash floods across the country, water resilience must move to the forefront of design. This piece explores practical methodologies for Malaysian builders, including sponge city concepts, integrated rainwater harvesting, greywater recycling systems and low-impact development (LID) designs to help ensure our future infrastructure remains resilient, sustainable and adaptable. A Candid Note on Supporting Our Voice While we are proud of the high-calibre editorial content we produce, the survival of an independent industry voice relies on more than strong reader interest. We constantly receive requests from firms eager for valuable editorial exposure, yet we frequently encounter reluctance when it comes to supporting the journal through paid advertisements. To keep this platform robust and widely distributed, we must find more creative, mutually beneficial ways to demonstrate the immense marketing value of our journal. I urge our members and industry peers to view advertising here as a strategic, highly targeted investment in our shared community. In closing, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to our readers, our brilliant article contributors and our steadfast advertisers for their unwavering support. We hope to count on your continued partnership as we enter this new term. Please feel free to send any feedback, suggestions or advertising enquiries to our secretariat, Mohd Hanif, at mbam17@mbam.org.my.
