As we navigate the midpoint of 2026, the Malaysian construction industry finds itself at a fascinating crossroads. While the skyline continues to evolve with ambitious projects, the true foundation of our success — our human capital — is undergoing a profound transformation. This issue is dedicated to the people who drive our industry forward and the structural shifts required to sustain them. Our cover story, ‘How Malaysia’s Construction Giants are Winning the 2026 Talent War’, takes an inside look at the organisations leading the charge. Beyond competitive salaries, we explore how top employers are utilising innovative workplace cultures and advanced technology to attract and retain the brightest minds in an increasingly tight market. However, the path forward is not without its hurdles. In our feature story, ‘Navigating the Structural Paradox of Malaysia’s Construction Labour Market’, we dive deep into the complexities of human resource management. From the evolving role of CLAB to the imminent introduction of the multi-tier levy system, we examine the challenges firms face in balancing operational costs with the necessity of a skilled workforce. Complementing this discussion is an overview of the Construction Action Plan 2030 (CAP30) by the MBAM President himself, a vital roadmap designed to modernise our sector and align our practices with global standards. On a personal note, this issue marks a significant milestone for me. This will be my final ‘Editor’s Note’ as my term for 2024–2026 comes to a close. It has been an absolute privilege to serve as your Editor-in-Chief. Documenting the resilience and ingenuity of our members during this period has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my tenure. As we look to the future of this publication, I must be candid. While we receive constant requests from organisations seeking exposure within these pages, there remains a noticeable reluctance when it comes to formal advertising support. To ensure the Master Builders Journal remains a high-quality, independent voice for the industry, we must find more effective ways to demonstrate the value of this platform to potential partners. I encourage our members to view advertising not just as a marketing expense, but as a vital reinvestment into the collective knowledge of our community. Finally, I wish to extend my deepest gratitude to our loyal readers, our insightful article contributors, and the advertisers who have stood by us. Your support is the lifeblood of this journal, and I hope that same spirit of cooperation continues for the next term and beyond. For any feedback regarding this issue or enquiries on how you can contribute, please contact the secretariat in charge, Mohd Hanif, at mbam17@mbam.org.my. Thank you for an incredible journey.
