The MBAM Lifting Supervisor Training is an industrial-based training that is jointly organised with the Malaysia Mobile Crane Owner’s Association (1987), with the support of the Department of Occupational Safety & Health (DOSH), Malaysia. This training has been formulated in view of the increasing construction accidents involving crane lifting activities at construction sites. MBAM has thus undertaken a proactive initiative to assist members and the industry by conducting industry- based training to further enhance the professionalism of construction personnel in carrying out their duties and responsibilities in lifting operations at construction sites. This will ultimately reduce the accident rate in crane lifting activities. The first day of training is classroom training that focuses on technical knowledge for lifting activities, including regulatory legislation, knowing the roles and responsibilities of a lifting supervisor, understanding lifting activities and cranes, reading load charts, calculations, and lifting plans. The second day of training and assessment is conducted in the field with practical lifting activities. Trainees apply their technical knowledge to actual lifting actions, where communication with other lifting team members such as slingers, riggers, signalmen and crane operators are carried out effectively and safely. Participants are required to individually develop their own lifting. 89 th Intake 18–19/1/2025 19 participants 90 th Intake 18–19/2/25 19 participants 91 st Intake 10-11/3/24 19 participants 10 th Intake (Penang) 24–25/2/24 20 participants 68 MASTER BUILDERS JOURNAL #135Professional Development PD Trained Person in Mobile Elevating Work Platform (MEWP) 17–18 MARCH 2025 The two-day training programme titled ‘Trained Person in Mobile Elevating Work Platform (MEWP)’ was successfully conducted at Sunway Machinery Sdn Bhd. Facilitated by Zahrul, a competent and experienced trainer in machinery safety and MEWP operation, the session aimed to equip participants with the necessary knowledge, skills, and legal understanding to operate and supervise MEWPs. The training covered key objectives, including providing comprehensive knowledge of MEWP types and functions, emphasising legal compliance under the OSH (Amendment) 2022 and related standards, and training participants to identify hazards and assess risks associated with MEWP operations. It also ensured that participants understood safe operating procedures and emergency response plans, and aimed to certify them as Trained Persons in MEWP. The programme was divided into theoretical and practical sessions. The first day focused on theory, including an introduction to MEWPs, legal and regulatory frameworks, roles and responsibilities of trained persons, common hazards and control measures, pre-operational checks, maintenance procedures, and safe work practices such as the permit-to-work system. On the second day, the practical session involved hands-on demonstrations in MEWP inspection and operation. Participants also went through simulated emergency response scenarios, risk assessment exercises, performance evaluations, and both written and practical assessments. A total of 20 participants from various backgrounds in the construction industry took part in the training, with the majority passing the assessments, qualifying as Trained Persons in MEWP. CCPM – Method 2 (Interview) Preparedness Training 22 FEBRUARY – 15 MARCH 2025 MBAM conducted its sixth intake of the Preparation Course for Certified Construction Project Manager (CCPM) at the MBAM Training Centre. A total of 15 participants joined this round, bringing the cumulative number of people trained by MBAM to 145. The certification programme aims to enhance construction product quality through effective project administration by qualified and competent construction project managers. It also seeks to ensure that construction project managers are accredited under the Construction Industry Competency Standard (CICS), which was developed jointly by the Board and industry stakeholders. In addition, the programme encourages the adoption of best practices in managing construction tasks from project commencement to completion. Accreditation for CCPM is offered via three modes of assessment: Mode I(a) for training and assessment, Mode I(b) for assessment only, and Mode II (RPLE) for accreditation based on education and experience under the Recognition of Prior Learning and Experience pathway. MBAM has tailored this course to prepare currently serving construction project managers for CCPM certification through Mode II (RPLE), which requires candidates to submit documentation of their working experience and attend an interview session. 69 MASTER BUILDERS JOURNAL #135DONGPENG MALAYSIA CERAMIC TILE & SINTERED STONE GALLERY B-02-03 & 03A, EMHUB, PERSIARAN SURIAN, KOTA DAMANSARA 47810 PETALING JAYA, SELANGOR. 03-6148 9929/017 753 5798 5-01-02, JALAN AHMAD NOOR, JELUTONG, 11600 PULAU PIANG. 013 403 7989 DONGPENG CERAMIC - PENANG DONGPENG EAST MALAYSIA 358, Q3A, CENTRAL PARK COMMERCIAL CENTRE, 93200 KUCHING, SARAWAK 082 238 809Community & Social Events CS CIDB Chief Executive Daughter’s Wedding 2 DECEMBER 2024 MBAM President Oliver HC Wee with several MBAM Council Members at the Putra Glass House Kedah Contractors and Building Materials Suppliers Association 52 nd Anniversary Dinner 15 JANUARY 2025 MBAM Council Member Dato’ Lim Chee Tong attended the dinner held in Alor Star, Kedah, The event served to recognise the contributions of contractors and building materials suppliers in Kedah, while also providing an opportunity to network and discuss current industry challenges and opportunities.
