JANUARY 2025 PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
OUTLOOK
As we step into 2025, I am excited to share that the Master Builders Association Malaysia (MBAM) remains committed to supporting our industry through strategic initiatives aligned with the nation’s current development plans. Although Budget 2025 did not include any new mega infrastructure projects, we see significant opportunities in the government’s focus on sustainable growth, urban rejuvenation, and digital transformation. Last year in 2024, there was RM199 billion worth of construction jobs awarded in Malaysia for both Government and private sector. The year 2025 is expected to be a busy year especially with the recent announcement of the RM8.32 billion worth of Penang LRT project awarded to Gamuda Berhad. However, with the challenges ahead in the middle east, the Russia-Ukraine War, trade tensions between the United States of America and China and expected various policy changes expected various policy changes locally that will impact the supply chain and material prices. We hope members will be prepared and be ready for this as contracting parties in order to avoid costly contractual disputes.
Leveraging Technology for a Sustainable Future
The construction industry must prioritize the adoption of advanced digital construction technologies, such as Building Information Modelling (BIM), Industrialised Building Systems (IBS), and automation. These technologies are essential to overcoming labour and productivity challenges while simultaneously improving efficiency and output quality. By embracing these tools is the only way the construction sector can overcome the challenges faced on insufficient and unskilled labour.
Additionally, there is a growing need to integrate sustainable practices by utilizing green machineries and reducing the sector’s carbon footprint. Transitioning to renewable energy sources and implementing green technologies will not only address environmental concerns but also position the industry as a leader in sustainable development.
To further support the construction industry, MBAM has planned a series of impactful initiatives for 2025. Among these are conferences on critical topics such as Contracts and Practices, Safety and Health, and Human Resources, which will be conducted across various states to ensure widespread accessibility and engagement. The association will also focus on talks and seminars on renewable energy and all types of required transformation to encourage adoption and to promote better engagement on the subject matter.
A significant milestone for MBAM in 2025 will be the launch of its new headquarters built using IBS in Putra Heights. This headquarters is not just bricks and mortar. It is a hub for training, upskilling, talent development, dispute resolving and networking. This will support the Malaysian construction industry for decades to come. To bring this vision to life, MBAM will actively undertake fundraising initiatives to support the completion and operationalization of the new building.
By leveraging technology, prioritizing sustainability, and fostering continuous professional development, MBAM aims to propel the construction industry toward a more productive, sustainable, and future-ready era.
